Fair Housing
Last updated: September 2026
Tordoa is committed to providing a marketplace that supports equal access to housing and does not permit discriminatory housing practices.
Tordoa operates a technology platform that allows renters and housing providers to discover one another, communicate, and share housing information. Tordoa does not make housing decisions on behalf of landlords or renters. Users are responsible for complying with all applicable fair housing, civil rights, and other laws.
01. Our Fair Housing Policy
Federal fair housing law prohibits discrimination in the sale or rental of housing on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability. Sex protections include sexual orientation and gender identity under applicable federal law.
Tordoa prohibits users from using the platform to create, publish, communicate, or enforce discriminatory housing preferences, limitations, or requirements.
This prohibition applies to, among other things:
- Property listings
- Renter profiles
- Housing advertisements
- Search and matching activity
- Messages and communications
- Requests for information
- Offers, refusals, or other housing-related decisions
Users may not express a preference for, limitation against, or exclusion of people based on a protected characteristic.
Housing advertisements are subject to fair housing requirements as well. HUD states that housing providers and property managers should not publish advertisements expressing a preference, limitation, or discrimination based on a protected class.
02. Austin Fair Housing Protections
Because Tordoa is initially focused on Austin, users should also be aware that the City of Austin provides protections beyond the federal Fair Housing Act.
Austin identifies protections including creed, student status, marital status, age, and source of income, in addition to the federal protected categories.
Users are responsible for complying with all applicable federal, state, and local requirements, including requirements that may apply based on the location or type of housing involved.
03. Disability And Reasonable Accommodations
Housing providers must comply with applicable requirements concerning reasonable accommodations and reasonable modifications for persons with disabilities.
This may include requests involving assistance animals. An assistance animal is not necessarily treated as a pet under fair housing law, and housing providers may have obligations to make reasonable accommodations when legally required.
Tordoa does not determine whether a particular accommodation is legally required. Housing providers are responsible for evaluating and responding to accommodation requests in accordance with applicable law.
04. User Responsibility
Tordoa provides technology for users to discover and communicate with one another. Tordoa does not approve, deny, select, screen, or make final housing decisions for users.
Landlords, property owners, property managers, and other housing providers are responsible for ensuring that their listings, advertisements, screening criteria, communications, and housing decisions comply with applicable law.
Renters are also responsible for using Tordoa in compliance with applicable laws and these Terms.
Nothing on Tordoa should be interpreted as legal advice or as permission to engage in conduct that would otherwise violate applicable fair housing or civil rights laws.
05. Prohibited Content And Conduct
Users may not use Tordoa to:
- Advertise housing with discriminatory preferences or limitations;
- Refuse or discourage housing opportunities based on a protected characteristic;
- Ask applicants or renters discriminatory questions;
- Create discriminatory renter requirements;
- Use protected characteristics or unlawful proxies to determine who may view, contact, or receive housing opportunities;
- Harass another user based on a protected characteristic;
- Retaliate against a person for raising a fair housing concern or exercising a legally protected right; or
- Encourage another person to engage in discriminatory housing practices.

07. No Guarantee Of Legal Compliance
Tordoa takes fair housing seriously, but we cannot guarantee that every user, listing, message, or housing decision made through the platform will comply with applicable law.
Tordoa is not a law firm, housing authority, broker, landlord, property manager, or government agency, and information provided on this page is not legal advice.
